Tell me

I've determined my mind must think in terms of song lyrics.

When assigned my newest project of speaking/writing about the book Slow Theology, by A.J. Swoboda and Nijay Gupta, I immediately thought of the lyric, "Tell me all your thoughts on God..."

The American alternative rock band Dishwalla is not exactly a household name... Probably more of a one-hit-wonder. However, that 1995 song, titled 'Counting Blue Cars' off their 'Pet Your Friends' album was the most-played song on the radio in the US in 1997 and 1998.

Legend has it that lead singer J.R. Richards wrote the song rather quickly, and it was inspired by a chat with his 10-year-old neighbor. He wanted to write on the subject from a child's perspective, noting that we're much more honest and not as biased at that age. So it is somewhat the "story of a young boy's spiritual journey." It's also interesting that Richards said he received death threats after the song's release because people were upset about the insinuation God could be a woman. Not surprising.

I'm thinking of using this little tidbit not only to open the message on Slow Theology, but also to lead into the first point that "We're all theologians."

Here's the video of the song: https://youtu.be/Clxtg2pFTQM?si=frZN-ismU9N3bh86
