Cell Phone

Well, I finally did it. I actually have my own cell phone now. I don't know if I'm happy or sad. Jane and I have always "shared" a phone. Usually we're together so it doesn't matter. But we got a "deal", and decided to go ahead and take the plunge. Now we each have our own.

Some things to remind myself of:

- I don't want to wear it on my belt. It's an anti-status sorta thing. I'll hide it in my pocket.

- I will only give my number out in emergencies. I'm not THAT important. People can leave a message for me at home or the office. I need my space (seriously).

- I will not walk around the grocery store talking so everyone can hear me. Personally, I think that's disrespectful. Maybe I'm old fashioned.

- Someday I will need to study the book and figure out how to use all the features.

Well, my tea is ready. Then off to bed. I don't trust setting the alarm clock on it yet.

Peace. Revolution. Call me sometime... :)

Funny, I said the same things when I got mine. But now I wear it on my belt (Just too hard to dig out of your pocket when you're driving). And so on. Enjoy.

RING RING Hey Dan! Enjoy the phone. BUT if my experience is of any help to ya. Don't give the number to anyone but Jane and the kids. My phone goes off ALL the time. I hate it.

One more thing....Make sure the number is on the "DO NOT CALL LIST" Yes, I have had telemarkers call my cell. Grr.

This is great advice. Could you please post your cell phone number here so I can call you if I want?

I have not published my cell phone # in the church, though I have given it to all of our leaders.

Here a couple of thoughts randomly about cell phone usage:

1. The cell phone has become THE phone. Many people don't even have a home phone.

2. I'm not that easy to find since I don't keep office hours. Am I protecting my time because I'm introverted or because I really need the protection. I don't have to answer the cell phone and in fact, don't always answer it. It really doesn't ring that much so far.

3. The status thing I don't want is the one where people where it on their ear all the time. But that will probably become more and more normal.

4. I think I when I have a church office (which should be next month), I'll probably put my cell number on the answering machine. Otherwise, it will be fairly hard to get a hold of me and I don't think even a new person should have that much trouble getting a hold of me.

5. Honestly, my cell doesn't ring even half of much as every one of my leader's cell phones. When I'm with them, their phones ring and mine usually does not.
