A perfect thought...

"Ultimate perfection is the ability to tolerate the imperfection of others."
... Francois Fenelon

I have no idea what to do with that quote. Anything I've read of Fenelon's is profound beyond my comprehension.

At first I loved it...then totally related to it...then thought Jesus was the ultimate perfectionist...then decided he didn't begin to merely tolerate people, instead He loved and accepted people in spite of their "intolerability"....then decided this quote was a load of crap, although it sounds good at first.

How's that for ya? lol Care to know what I REALLY think???

For the record, you're sounding pretty profound these days yourself ;).

Robin,
Hey, is that sarcasm I detect? (calling me profound...) :)

Actually, you are right to wrestle with this. When I posted it I loved it. And I still do in the sense that we shouldn't look down on others.

But as you may know about Fenelon, he had some "leanings" to him. As stated on Wikipedia he was "influenced by [the] Quietest Movement, which emphasized the complete detachment from the things in this world." So, yes, it can be argued that the statement is heretical (in the sense that that means we would need to be detached from people).

And, while we are not to merely "tolerate" people, but to love them... I still like the idea that we need to all work on our ability to "at least" tolerate, whilst learning to love. :)

Sorry to cause you such grief. Thanks for jumping in though.
