Contemplation
I don't know why I liked this painting so much. Not necessarily $1800 much... but it just kind of draws me in for some reason. It is an oil and mixed media on panel by Richard Garrison called... "contemplation."
It's probably because the nobility of paint lends itself to assuming that this man is thinking great thoughts, perhaps troubled thoughts. If we knew that this man just dropped his ice cream, we would identify with him less.
Except for me, I can identify with the tragedy of dropped ice cream.
See how the artist implies the intensity with the use of red, and the posture of a conservatively dressed man with his eyes focused squarely on the ground. The pose is unassuming, unguarded, as if he is so lost in his thoughts that he is unaware of his surroundings.
Oh... I thought he was trying to get a booger off his finger by wiping it on his pantleg. But dropped ice cream would explain the serious tone of the piece. Thanks for explaining.

...he definitely dropped his ice cream.
