Who I am

You know... I really don't know how to be
anyone but who I am.
And I feel bad that there are people who don't like me
for who I am...
But how crazy would it be
if God made me to be
exactly who it is that I am?

Hmm...

This resonates with a lot of what I've been thinking about for the past year or so.

But then it also immediately brings the question, "OK, then, who AM I?" And that, for me, has been tough. Especially if you try to answer it without "what am I" answers ("I am a..."). It's almost like our culture and language conspire to make our "who" into "what's," such that we don't even have a language about "who's." I think this may be what Martin Buber was writing about, but I've never been able to struggle through even the short "I/Thou."

One clue as to who I am (look left, look right...hush tone): "follow the beer."
