I took my 2011 Ford Escape in for service today. It was a bit overdue for an oil change, plus it's had this clunking sound for awhile which I thought might be a broken shock or some such suspension-type thing.
It turns out the noise was from the front sway bar links, so they replaced both of those. They also noted that it still had the original battery, so I had them go ahead and replace that too. I thought I'd noticed it hesitating ever-so-briefly a couple times recently.
All told it was a little more than I was anticipating. It was $475.95 altogether. $125.80 for the battery; $140 for the sway bar links; $24.52 for the oil change. The remaining $170+ was labor, tax, and whatnot.
They suggested I get the transmission oil changed - and I have noticed it feeling a little funny off and on - but I decided to wait. I'm kind of old school about those sorts of things (hesitant to fix what ain't broken), plus I didn't really want to add another couple hundred onto today's bill.
Anyway, I dropped it off after I got off work this morning and walked home. I had them come pick me up when it was done this afternoon.
Now it is a nice smooth and quiet ride again. I'm sure my uber riders will appreciate that (eye roll). Of course, I will actually be working almost fulltime the next few weeks covering other people's shifts at the Y. So who knows when I will have time to drive again. We will see.
