I mowed the lawn yesterday - hopefully for the last time this year.
I like how the lawn looks this time of year. The bare trees and empty flowerbeds leave a neat and clean simplicity. It's like a tidy house... on the outside. There's something very satisfying about it to me.
We spent the weekend at my parent's house. We left Sunday morning amid reports of a major winter snowstorm. We didn't see any of it, but when we arrived back in the Fort around 3 pm it was a balmy 50 degrees and sunny. I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and put away the patio furnishings, then fired up the mower. It's a good thing because this morning it was bitter cold with snow flurries. At least we didn't get the foot of snow they got back home (or near there anyway).
This was the first year I've had a mulching mower, and I really like that. The bulk of the leaves are out by the curb, but there were still plenty that I just mowed up... and then it looks so nice and clean.
I tried to run the mower out of gas... but the silly thing just kept going and going and going. I finally just shut it off and put some additive in the tank.
So, another mowing season has come and gone. The first one with a different mower in... a long time. Hopefully it's awhile before I need to fire up the snowblower...
