Valentine's Day has always had such a Shakespearean quality about it. Romance, chocolates, and sweet nothings somehow arose from the storied tale of the poor priest himself. As the people from Common Prayer state:
A Christian priest in Rome, Valentine was known for assisting Christians persecuted under Claudius II. After being caught marrying Christian -couples and helping Christians escape the persecution, Valentine was arrested and imprisoned. Although Emperor Claudius originally liked Valentine, he was condemned to death when he tried to convert the emperor. Valentine was beaten with stones, clubbed, and, finally, beheaded on February 14, 269. In the year 496, February 14 was named as a day of celebration in Valentine’s honor. He has since become the patron saint of engaged -couples, beekeepers, happy marriages, lovers, travelers, young -people, and greetings.Go figure, eh...
Anyway, my/our Valentine's Day will be slightly less eventful. We exchanged cards and chocolates this morning. I make all my cards on Microsoft Publisher (I hate paying money for them, and hate all the sappy sayings even moreso), and I bought m'Lady a box of chocolates at Walmart. It appears she hand-made my card (perhaps from my mom's supplies), and gave me a box of DeBrands chocolates.
We did get to see each other at lunch today. She stopped in at my work where we were having our annual chili cook-off. I am going to bake us a Tombstone pizza tonight for our Valentine's supper. Perfect!

In other news... those of you who may be keeping score of my momentary meltdowns will be happy to know I survived yet another. Barely. Tuesday into Wednesday seemed a rather long year. Of course, as usual, it was much worse for Jane than for me. I don't remember much after probably 4 Tuesday afternoon. She had to put up with my ramblings and fits of crying/rage/remorse that night, and then get up to make sure I could get into work at 4:30 the next morning. I honestly don't know how she puts up with me.
My head is starting to shape back into size, so now there's mostly just embarrasment left to deal with. I guess maybe it helps with the humility. My days of being able to control much of anything in my life are apparently behind me. Perhaps this is good practice for when someone has to feed me and wipe my behind.
So, that's about all I've got. Happy beheading day!
