Coaching/mentor questions

I stumbled onto this article 'The Best Mentors Ask These 8 Questions' the other day. While the article is about mentoring, they talk about it in a way very much like the coaching I used to be involved with. In fact, they are much the same questions.

I'm sure I have these listed out in various places on this blog, but I wanted to put them down again... because I think they're good. They can be helpful not only in formal mentoring/coaching, but for more informal "helping" with friends and associates, as well as personal decision-making.

Please read the article for explanations, but here are the 8 questions:
  1. What does success look like to you?
  2. What is the outcome you want?
  3. What do you want to be different in 3 to 5 years?
  4. What are the obstacles you're facing?
  5. What can you control?
  6. What are the options you've come up with?
  7. Tell me more...
  8. What are you reading?

These are good questions to consider even if you're trying to work through a decision on your own. Give them a try...
