Let's face it, "abortion" is nothing but a talking point for conservative politicians.
I've been thinking that thought for some time now. Words have failed me on how to get it across.
Then comes this article from David French "Do Pro-Lifers Who Reject Trump Have 'Blood On Their Hands'?" Such a good and worthwhile read.
I was informed of the French article by Matt Tebbe. And, let me say, if you are concerned about the Christian faith, social justice, and society as a whole, YOU SHOULD BE FOLLOWING MATT ON SOCIAL MEDIA! Anyway, this was his Facebook post regarding the article:
**Abortion post, hold onto your butts.**
This should bring everyone together in perfect harmony.
David French, Conservative commentator and committed pro-lifer, recently wrote a blog post about abortion in America. It was covered by The Holy Post Podcast, hosted by Phil Vischer, Skye Jethani, and Christian Taylor. I'll link to both the blog post - and - the podcast in the comments below.
French isn't voting for Trump.
And he doesn't buy into the logic that he will have 'blood on his hands' for this decision, re: abortion.
I encourage you to *read his article* but here are his main points:
"Decades of data and decades of legal, political, and cultural developments have combined to teach us a few, simple realities about abortion in the United States:
1. Presidents have been irrelevant to the abortion rate;
2. Judges have been forces of stability, not change, in abortion law;
3. State legislatures have had more influence on abortion than Congress;
4. Even if Roe is overturned, abortion will be mostly unchanged in the U.S.; and
5. The pro-life movement has an enormous cultural advantage. "
Summarizing from Podcast and Blog Post:
RE: #1 - Abortion rates have been declining steadily for 40 years; they decline just as much or more when there's a Democrat President as when there's a Republican President.
RE: #2 - Only 1 sitting SCOTUS has said RvW should be overturned (Thomas) - and - even most conservative SCOTUS votes to uphold past precedence.
RE: #4 - overturning RvW isn't going to solve abortion problem in U.S. RvW didn't make abortion legal; it made it illegal for States to make it illegal. If it's overturned abortion will be left up to the States once again. And a majority of Americans live in most populated States that are typically progressive - so - abortions will still happen. Additionally - the abortion rates today are LOWER than before RvW!! Think about that...
Best case scenario: overturning RvW would reduce abortions by 10% in U.S.
RE: #5 - Practically no one *wants* an abortion.
********
So why do I post this? A few reasons:
1. If you want to be pro-life, go for it (I am pro-life).
2. Don't be deluded that electing a Republican President is the best thing you can do for pro-life causes.
3. Pro-life is more than anti-abortion for Jesus and the Holy Scriptures.
4. "Pro-life" has become a practically meaningless, weaponized, political tool (on both Right and Left) that keeps people locked into a Holy War with a promise *that is mostly a lie*. Christians: we are being used as pawns in a power struggle of Empire.
5. If your vote for POTUS is freed from the fantasy that both the Right and Left want you to believe about it re: abortion how would that free you to be political? To vote locally and nationally?
6. For Christians: the promise offered you about abortion by the GOP is largely built on lies and fantasies. The data doesn't back up the unholy marriage of Christians with the GOP. You are free from serving this Master who will never deliver and can't contain the Hope you have for justice and life.
Better stop there.
There's another post about how the early Church saw pre-birth life, abortion, etc and how we would do well to recover some of their categories imo...but this is already long enough.
Kumbaya everyone.
So, I know, there's a lot of info there. There are so many more things I would like to say or repeat but... I would just be repeating what's already there. I may discuss more later, but at least wanted to get this down.
Literally no one wants to get an abortion. Yet every election cycle good Christian folk are led to believe they MUST vote republican or it's the same as killing unborn children. This is not true. It is a lie! Do not be deceived.

Pretty eyeopening information here. I know I have heard a lot of this in bits and pieces, but this is the first time I recall seeing it all together.
