Thanksgiving 2020

Another Thanksgiving has come and gone... albeit a little different than usual for most.

Yes, it is still 2020, and the pandemic is still hitting us as hard as ever. So, we were encouraged to avoid large gatherings - even family gatherings. I don't know how many people actually did so, but it is still different nonetheless.

We don't normally have very large gatherings at Thanksgiving anyway. It seems I typically have to work the next day - which is the case this year too. The Feipel five came over for a late lunch, and that was about it. I was happy that my sister actually stayed with my mom through the holiday so she didn't have to be alone.

We did observe a few of our normal 'traditions': listened to Arlo Guthrie's 'Alice's Restaurant Massacre', ate turkey, watched football, and we all enjoyed the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special (which we have on cd). This year we also started a new tradition: the hiding/finding of turkey eggs! I hid three eggs - one for each grandchild - with money inside. It was a nice day, and I figured since this year has been so screwed up, I'd try to give them a little something extra. Plus, those Easter Eggs just sit around all year with nothing to do...

Anyway, I am at work now. I had one person in at 5:14 am, and the next at 6:30. At least I got my bosu ball workout in while standing at the front desk!

Even though the pandemic has thrown us all for a bit of a loop, I am thankful it has been nothing but a mere inconvenience for most of us. Few people I know have ever had to endure true hardship, poverty, war, and the like. Wearing a mask and trying to avoid large groups isn't really that difficult in the grand scheme of things.
