One loving, blind desire

I was thinking this morning... I really don't know much. Seriously. I mean, I don't know what to do about the great divide over trans people, gun laws (or lack of), abortion rulings, the hyper-partisan political landscape... and so many other things. And it's not in a hopeless sort of way, but more... I simply do not know. I have no answers. It hasn't really been on my radar.

As I thought about this I was reminded of something in my devotions yesterday:

A reading from a fourteenth-century anonymous work, The Cloud of Unknowing: “For I tell you this: one loving, blind desire for God alone is more valuable in itself, more pleasing to God and to the saints, more beneficial to your own growth, and more helpful to your friends, both living and dead, than anything else you could do.” (Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals, 4/11)
I don't think this means we should stick our heads in the sand - there ARE so many things things needing done and addressed! But what if we could do it from a different Center, than from our reactions to the news and gossip and group-think?

I dunno. I'm probably the last person who should be suggesting anything. It just seems like a lot of people are using "religion" as an argument for laws and rulings and curriculum changes, etc., and there doesn't seem to be a lot of "loving, blind desire for God" involved.

Meh, okay. I'll get down off this horse...
