License renewal crap

I got my drivers license renewed today. I tried doing it online yesterday. Things were going so well until all of a sudden: "Please visit your nearest Bureau of Motor Vehicle office to complete this process." Dang. Naturally I thought I'd done something wrong. Heck, maybe there was a warrant out for my arrest or something!!!

So today I went to the one in our neighborhood. On my way there around 12:30pm I considered maybe lunchtime the day before the end of the month wasn't the best time to do this. But I was already on my way and didn't have anything else planned, so I trudged on.

I walked in the door past the kiosk - I knew that wasn't going to work (though I still didn't know why). Fortunately the chap in front of me grabbed a ticket out of this computer thing, so I grabbed one after him. Number 172. I took a seat and tried to just sit there. I've been trying to not look at my phone so much during these down times. There are probably so many things we miss seeing and hearing by keeping ourselves so preoccupied. ... ... ... Nah, there wasn't much to see or hear. Lots of people talking, all at the same time. All the employees looked like they wanted to stab their eyes out.

Finally my number was called. I maybe had to wait 15 minutes. Apparently I had to take an eye test and have my picture re-taken. I needed to read the top line, with my glasses on. Piece of cake! Of course then you have to take your glasses off for the picture, but she said I could smile as long as I didn't show my teeth. I tried to not take it personally.

That was it, other than scribbling my name in five places and paying seventeen dollars and some odd cents. My license will come in the mail in a couple weeks. But, man... those black-and-white pics on paper don't make a person feel very good. I look like an old man! How did that happen? Ugh.

Anyway, maybe it's because I haven't felt well the past couple days. I can't really explain it, but I was kind of just "out of it" Monday and Tuesday. I don't feel so bad today, but I still feel like my eyes are kind of sunk in and all. I suppose I will survive.

So... that happened.

I tried to renew my car insurance online and experienced nothing but grief. You can imagine how frustrating that was for a guy in a wheelchair. "Super-easy" for the insurance racket maybe!
