The first mowing of the year
I mowed the lawn Thursday (April 16th) for the first time this year. I was not aware at the time that April 17th was the first mowing last year until it showed up on my Facebook memories. Interesting.
The lawn wasn't really that bad. The front yard did not need it, but the back was getting some high spots. So, I raised the deck up to the #5 setting (out of 6), and intended to just lop off the top of the tallest areas. I like to mow as high as possible in the Spring to help keep weeds in check, then lower it as the summer progresses so it's at its lowest in late fall - so leaves will blow on by.
I ended up mowing the entire lawn - which always happens - and I do have to say, it really did make a difference. It's funny how I never think it needs mowed that first time, but it always looks so much nicer afterward. I suppose it's that way with painting, cleaning, haircuts, and a whole host of things.
Fortunately I got it done Thursday, because yesterday it snowed all day. We ended up with only an inch or two, but still...
This is the second opening day of using the new/used mower I got from my boss at the Y. It started and ran just fine. I should probably change the oil and sharpen up the blade at some point while I am off work.
And... that's about all there is to say about that. So it begins... Well, eventually it will begin again... once the snow melts.
