Uber stories - st. patrick's day

St. Patricks Day has now come and gone for another year. This was my first as an Uber driver. Like just about everything else I suppose it had it's positives, and negatives.

It helped that Jane was out of town for the weekend (visiting her brother in Colorado), so I didn't feel bad about working on the weekend, but it also kept me from getting drunk and stupid while she was gone!

I debated whether I should drive late at night and into the morning - possibly making more in tips, but also having to deal with more 'tipsy' riders - or sticking to daytime hours. I think I made the wise choice and drove during the day. There were plenty of partiers as it was, plus I was the greeter at church Sunday morning.

I started driving around 12:30 pm and stayed out until 7:30 pm. I took a couple half hour breaks to pee and stretch my legs, so it ended up I was online just under 6 hours (5 hrs. 50 min.). I took in $130 - so it was over $20 an hour. I was hoping for more - thinking I would drive a little longer - but things were getting a tad chaotic as it was, so I decided to quit while I was ahead. I've heard reports of some Fort Wayne drivers taking in over $500 for the day, but they worked a full 12 hours (as long as we're allowed to drive at a time). So while I didn't come close to that, I was happy with what I got. It's about a week's worth of driving for me, and in only six hours.

Right from the start I was picking up groups of people wanting to "get their Irish on," so to speak. I had several four-passenger rides, and couples. I think I only had 2 or 3 lone riders. Most of my time was spent either taking people to, or picking people up from, one of four locations in town: the GetGreen festival, JK O'Donnell's, O'Sullivans, and Deer Park. JK's closed off their street, so that was interesting, but O's and Deer Park were clearly the most chaotic. I honestly can't believe I wasn't involved in an accident at the corner of Spring Street and Leesburg Road (I heard there was a bad wreck there after I stopped driving).

I had a couple people fade off on me as I took them home. The only real "problem" person I had never did even get in my car. He'd requested a ride from Deer Park, but it turned out he was actually at O's. He didn't get obnoxious or anything, but he seemed drunk enough that he had no clue what he had done or what he was doing. I had no problem finding someone else who needed a ride. It was back to back all day long.

The craziest thing I saw was a couple (guy and girl) both peeing beside someone's garage by Deer Park. The thing was... it was right alongside the main road where everyone could see them. People were hollering and laughing at them, but I don't think they cared.

The strangest thing of the day was a lone guy I picked up at a hotel. He was maybe mid twenties, and he was actually FROM Belfast, Ireland. He'd just arrived in Fort Wayne a week ago to start an internship. He had a 2-liter bottle of coke and was going to a friends house. He said Americans party way more than the Irish do on St. Patty's day. He thought it was quite amusing.

This was also the first time I've picked someone up who I knew - even though I didn't actually give them a ride. A woman that works out where I work, and also works in Jane's office, was in a group of people I picked up. They needed two vehicles and she ended up choosing to ride in the other. It was kind of weird pulling up to the same place at the same time as another Driver. I waived at him, but he just looked at me.

So, all in all, it wasn't a bad day. I was tired because it was a little bit stressful with the extra traffic and so many people walking around town, but I was happy with the payout. I don't usually mind drunks (myself included), however I tend to think St. Patrick's Day partiers are a little different. I'm thinking the earlier drunks were more well behaved than the later ones.

I move slow...

...because I've no particular place to go.

I have always been a slow talker, and a slow walker. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a movie scene where a person is standing still and everything all around them is a blur of motion.

I can remember in high school I used to walk really really slow in the hallways to and from class. I rarely tied my shoe laces, and sort of tried to just blend into the wall as I slunked along to geometry or sociology or whatever. I think people made fun of me behind my back because of this.

I was, however, a fast runner. When I wanted to be. I was a sprinter on the track team, and actually started college on a track scholarship. I ended up transferring and then dropping out before I ever competed collegiately, but I COULD have run track in college. If I wanted.

----

Sometimes I think about this when I work at the Y. Not about running track, but the moving slow part. My boss is almost the exact opposite of me. He hurries everywhere he goes and in everything he does. Every now and then he will rush past me and I'll feel myself sort of... just... thinking... "why in the world is he is such a hurry?"

Of course, the truth is, he has things to do and places to be! I'm sure he, and others, probably wonder why I move so slow. Well, you know, I have nothing to do and nowhere to go.

----

A thought jumped into my mind last week something along the lines of... I actually could make a difference; I could be proactive. It was like I'd suddenly realized I've become this person who has passively settled into a state of having my life dictated by others. Not that anyone is MAKING me do or be anything, but I am allowing it to happen. Like I'm in neutral and just being pushed about - whether that is moved into a position someone else wants me to be, or simply slid out of the way like a snowblower in Spring. I dunno... it was much clearer at the time, but I came to the realization I am not actively engaged in life. I have been letting life happen to me, rather than living it. And for about half a day... I wanted to do something about it.

Then I must have started thinking about something else, because I'd forgotten about it until just now... Just now when I hummed the line, "I move slow... because I've no place to go."

So, there's that.

----

On another note... I went to a sort of church meeting yesterday. It was in a coffee shop, and was just me, one other person, and the pastor at our church. Our church is not very "church-y." In fact, it's not even called a "church." It's a "ministry." Some time ago the pastor asked if I would be part of a group to help bring some organization, or leadership, or something, to the "ministry." There are no elders, deacons, or leadership group of any kind - there's a part-time pastor, part-time secretary, and part-time janitor - and while that's not all bad, it also leaves things in a bit of chaos sometimes.

Anyway, I went to this meeting. First off I realized I'd brought the wrong notebook because I thought it was for something else, even though my phone calendar clearly stated which meeting it was. It didn't matter because there aren't really any notes or anything to go by anyhow. So we chatted for about two hours. I had a Cafe Miel (?) to drink, and eventually found myself sinking into my seat.

It's nothing against other people - not that they don't matter, but they're not the cause or problem - but as I tried to give input, and listen, and be a part... I slowly started to lose interest. I began to think maybe I just can't get along with others; or maybe I am stupid; or maybe I'm just completely out of touch and my ideas are nonsense. I don't fit. I don't think I have control issues, but the thought occurred to me that maybe I just can't be a part of things I'm not in charge of! But I don't want to be in charge of anything!!!

I left the meeting kind of dejected. I felt like nothing was accomplished, and I wasn't sure I was up to the task.

----

Anywho, today is St. Patrick's Day. I'm sitting at the desk looking out the window at the falling snow, typing on the laptop, and hoping Jane is having a good day while visiting her brother in Colorado.

I suppose I should get ready and start driving for Uber. I'm sure there are already people getting drunk on green beer. I drove a little last night - from around 5-8 pm. It was steady at first, but then got slow, and I got tired. I came home and watched college basketball and then a couple documentaries and went to bed around midnight. That was earlier than I anticipated. I thought I would drive longer, but I just wasn't into it.

I suppose I could make some money today and tonight... You know... slowly driving my car around, and having people tell me where to go and what to do... I never really thought about it like that...

There ARE some interesting people in the world, but sometimes I get tired of listening to others talk. I dislike being asked questions even more.

----

Well, this has become sort of a downward spiral. Lol. I didn't intend it to happen. Maybe that's how it works. Hmm...

I think I'll stop now.

Peace out; and in.

Random thoughts #466 (taking a backseat)

Hopefully no one is actually keeping track of the number of my 'random thoughts' posts. If you are, then you officially have less of a life than me. Anyway, here are some things currently on my mind...

SEATS
The pic is of the back seat out of my Ford Escape. This is the vehicle I use to drive for Uber. I'd read about this "miracle Do-It-Yourself cleaner" and thought I would give it a try. The cloth seats had a few spots from spillage and normal wear and tear, so I mixed up the vinegar, club soda, and Dawn dishwashing soap, sprayed it on, and it seemed to work pretty good. Unfortunately, several days later and there is still a fairly strong vinegar odor in the car. Not enough to make me sick, but so much so that I wouldn't want to pick up any Uber riders and risk poor ratings. So, after trying several different methods to remove the stench, I finally just removed the seats and washed the covers out in the shower. Hopefully this will help.

SPEAKING OF BACK SEATS...
This seems to be how my life has been going for some time now. I keep hoping for a "win" of some sort, but I continue losing instead. My confidence sinks lower, my countenance more somber, and it's getting harder and harder to keep the chin up. Something needs to change... but I'm tired. I've been telling myself to just sit back and lay low; walk humbly and not try to force anything. Folding towels at the Y seems to be one of my biggest joys lately - because I can actually do that! Yet I am inevitably reminded of how far I've fallen and disappointment stairs me down again and again. So... I trudge on. Slowly.

WORK
Part of my problem is work. And, please understand, I am aware ALL of my problem is of my own doing. It's no one else's fault. Much of it is contained within my own mind even. However, work has me worn down a bit at the moment. The Y does not pay well. I could make more money flipping burgers at McDonalds. It does afford me a place to go and interact with people without having to risk too much thinking or getting outside myself though. I am, however, a tad worn down from the schedule. We are presently short-handed, so I've been trying to help out as much as I can. Yet, as the "morning guy," it seems I'm having to work a lot of closing shifts. So, while I still only get 30-some hours a week, an example of my shedule is: tonight I work from 4-8 pm; tomorrow I work 5 am to 1 pm, then come back and work 5-8 pm; then Friday it's 5-9 AM again. If I can get the smell out of my car I will then add some hours of driving in there where I can. I can't complain about the number of hours, or even the difficulty of the work, but it is not overly inspiring, and most of the time I feel like a zombie walking around.

A 'THING'
Yesterday someone was telling me about when they took a Toastmasters class. I actually think what they were doing was trying to suggest I needed to do something to make myself more.... I don't know..... interesting. I've sensed myself crawling into a shell, and this conversation seemed to confirm others saw it too. So, I started looking into Toastmasters, or an Udemy course on public speaking or writing or something.

To be honest, a Toastmasters meeting scares me to death. I cannot imagine walking into a roomful of people and speaking in front of them. I don't understand how I used to do it on such a regular basis. So maybe an Udemy course...

I think the thing is, though, I need a "thing." I need to find something I can DO again. I don't feel like I can write or speak anymore; I'm struggling as a runner and my left foot has been bothering me; I simply don't have the chops or understanding to play the guitar (and haven't done so, basically since I stopped pastoring). I don't like to cook, sew, work on cars, or anything of the like. I guess I don't really have any hobbies or interests of any kind. I just go to work, come home and watch 'Wheel of Fortune' and 'Jeopardy,' and then go to bed. I don't think playing 'Yahtzee' on my phone counts for anything.

THE CARWASH
I suppose this is pretty sad, but if I'm honest, my biggest joy in life at the moment is pulling into the carwash. Since I'm a "club" member, I get to use a special entrance. So I can drive right past everyone who has to pay, and there's this little part of me that feels just a little superior as I do. I know it's not right, but that's my little power trip. Ugh. It looks worse as printed words...

CONSOLATION
Before anyone starts to feel too bad for me, please understand this is actually part of my "fix." Regardless of how good or bad this blog is, it has always been a place for me to write out my inner issues and that is often impetus enough to help me move forward. Yes, this spot may require more help - and I'm still looking in that direction - but just so everyone knows: I don't write these things to garner pitty, but to process my "stuff."

Things I take away from this dose of drivel:
  • I'd like to stop drinking again, and maybe deactivate my Facebook account for awhile (FB would be harder than drinking - I rely on it too much for Uber and other activities).
  • Sign up for an Udemy class on public speaking or writing.
  • Read a novel or some kind of fiction.

Those seem easy enough, but pretty dern daunting at the same time. Maybe just making the list is a good enough place to start. At least it's something to look at.

{Elaine to Puddy: "So you're just going to sit there and stare at the back of the seat?" Puddy: "Yeah."}

Uber stories

I will probably only drive one day this week. I've had some other things going on, been busy, needed to do some deep cleaning on the car, and will be gone a couple days. However, the one day I did drive - which was only for about 3 hours - was pretty good, and weird.

I turned on the app at 9:45 am and headed for the airport to wait on the plane from Punta Gorda, and on my way I got a ride request from nearby going TO the airport. So I dropped them off, swung around to the cell phone lot, and right away got a ride request off the PG flight. I dropped them off, and right away got another request from the airport. They went up north to the Coliseum Holiday Inn. While on the way I got another request. After him I picked up a guy way out north and took him to pick up his truck with snowmobiles so he could go to Minnesota or somewhere. Then came the last request of the day...

"Ashley" lived not far from my home. It was a scheduled ride, and as I pulled into her driveway there was another car just getting there too. The guy in the other car went in, and she came out. Nothing was said about it, but pretty soon she told me she was on her way to a job interview. She was nervous-talking a bit, and I was offering minimal support and hopefully encouragement. We passed a funeral home, though, and all of a sudden she's describing her friend who'd shot himself in the head. It was in such a matter-of-fact way that I'm wondering if it's the first time she's talked about it. So I just let her talk... We finally arrived at her destination and it was like the reality of the moment began to return. She was trying to collect herself, so I gave my only real advice: take three deep breaths, and just be yourself. She got out, straightened her jacket, and was gone.

So that was kind of different. I went to the carwash, grabbed a salad, and headed home so I could get ready for my other job. This one made me almost $60 on six rides in 2 hrs. 50 minutes. Another day of driving, but I felt a weird strangeness.

Uber stories - saturday night sap

I drove during the night this past Saturday. It was quite the eventful night, in several ways. For starters, I made more money than I ever had before, and I also had my first bad rider. Part of the reason it was so good was likely because the roads were bad. It had snowed about an inch and, while the snow wasn't a problem, it made the roads fairly slick. So I'm guessing a lot of people didn't want to chance driving.

I actually drove during the day on Saturday while Jane was at work. It wasn't too busy and I only made $34. We then worked a concert but when I got done I went back out around midnight. I was $5 short of $150 for the week and I hate stopping just short of those plateaus.

So I drove from midnight to about 4:45 am, and I made an extra $150, which put me at $184 for the day! That brought me to $295 for the week (3 days driving). This was by far my most productive day and week. A majority of my rides from midnight to 4:45 were surge rides, which pay extra. However, the downside was I had 3 or 4 cancellations. I got paid for most of them, but it's still a letdown.

As for passengers, just about all of them were in some state of inebriation. There were several couples, some from parties, some from restaurants/bars, and some people simply going to or from work. Some of the more memorable ones...

  • One couple (guy and girl) were wearing matching leopard-print coats. They were probably in their early twenties, and I assume they were at a house party, although I picked them up out on the street. They were very nice though.
  • Another guy and girl - I'm not sure if they were a couple or not - I picked up at a house. I had to wait FOREVER for them, even called/texted several times. They were younger as well, and were fine when they got in the car, but he must have said something because all of a sudden I could tell she was upset and they didn't talk the rest of the way.
  • I picked up one couple about my age - maybe a little younger - and she fell down as soon as they walked out of the bar (Curly's). He managed to get her into the back seat, and he sat up front. She promptly flopped over and was passed out. When we got to their house he woke her up, and the minute she stepped out of the car, she fell flat again. I offered to help him but he carried her into the house himself.
  • I had my first strip club fare on this night. A guy my age or older, and he was a little irritating. For starters, he got in and even though he put his destination address as Huntertown, he said all he really wanted was for me to take him to an ATM. Apparently he was in love and she had taken all his cash, and the machine in the club wouldn't give him anymore. So I asked him where to go and he says all snippity, "You're the damn driver, find me an ATM!" So I asked Siri on my phone and we finally found one. His card wouldn't work there either, so he asked to use my glasses. I'm like, "What?!" Turns out he couldn't read the back of his card to call, so I just told him the numbers (I was not giving him my glasses). So he called the cc company and it said he had money, so then he keeps asking my why it won't work. Like I'm supposed to know. Finally he told me to just take him back to the club. Once there he wanted me to wait for him. I said I couldn't wait but would still be in the area if he pinged me for another ride. Fortunately I got another pick-up as soon as he closed the door.
  • There were probably a few other happenings with my 15 or so rides, but none more memorable (or difficult) than the last rider. It was around 4 am, and he was in the Creighton/Lafayette area. His location kept changing from when I was first notified to the time I got there. I finally called him and found him a street away from the original pickup point. As soon as he got in the car he canceled the ride. He said it was a mistake, so he requested again and we started off. Then, right away, he changes the destination (to the gay bar down the street). I said something and he tells me to just cancel it and turn off the app. He stuck $40 cash in my face and said he would just pay me cash. He needed to go to Dupont Rd, which was right across from the storage place I used to work at, but also ten miles away. I didn't feel real good about it, but decided forty bucks was forty bucks, so we started off. He was very obviously messed up on something, and gay as a kite. At one point he wanted to get something to eat - but he wanted to go to a sit down restaurant! I told him I'd take him to a drive-thru, but I was not stopping to eat. He eventually passed out in the back seat. However, he was mumbling and yelling and thrashing around. I didn't even want to know what he was doing. We finally arrived at his apartment and I had to wake him up to tell me which one was his. At first he asked if my basket of treats and kleenex was for him. I said he could have some, but he couldn't take the whole thing with him. Then he started getting a tad belligerent, and he couldn't find his wallet. He was throwing stuff around and yelling at me and cussing and whatnot. Finally he told me to take him back to where I'd picked him up. I had to go that way to get home, so I agreed. He was mostly passed out on the way back. When we arrived, I again had to wake him up. Then he wouldn't get out. I finally had to get a little stern and tell him repeatedly to leave. Finally he gets out, immediately falls flat on the ground because the road was icy. His phone and things went flying. I just drove away. I was done with this idiot. Or so I thought. When I got home (at 4:45 am) I looked in the back seat at all the candy and kleenex he had tossed about, and there was his flipping wallet on the floor!! He had just under $300 cash in it. So I contacted Uber to have them notify him (protocol) and got a few hours sleep before church. On the way to church Jane looked in his wallet and found slips of paper with all the vault codes for the bank he apparently worked at. Oopsy. If he had lost those, and someone else had found them, he would certainly have lost his job. Anyway, so he finally called me Sunday morning while I was at church. He said he would just come there to pick it up. He was very thankful and relieved - said he had been up all morning sobbing because he knew he would get fired. He gave me another $40, which I told him wasn't necessary, but he insisted. So I just put it in the church offering box. I wanted nothing further to do with this guy. He was probably very nice under normal circumstances, but I was tired and not overly happy with the whole ordeal.

So, that was without a doubt my most eventful night of driving yet. I prefer daytime driving, but I should probably do one weekend night every few weeks. That's when the most money can be made. Shoot, this one night was better than most of my entire weeks as far as money goes (in regard to driving). We will see.

I wish I could get in the habit of journaling about this job more. It's funny how I completely forget so many rides/people/encounters. Oh well. That's all for now...

Uber stories

So it's occurred to me that maybe I should start writing down some of my Uber "moments." You know, significant events, interesting riders, strange happenings and whatnot, while driving for Uber.

I signed up as a driver around the middle of November 2017, however it wasn't until the beginning of this year that I took it very seriously. And I use the term 'seriously' seriously loose. My present goal is to make at least $100 a week. I usually do that in 2-3 days of driving, mostly during the day. I would likely make more money if I drove on Friday and Saturday nights, but I'm not sure I'm ready to go there.

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
I had my 100th ride just last week. I was driving Friday night while Jane was at a church event. My last ride of the evening was for three young women going to the "gay bar." They were feeling no pain when I picked them up, and one in particular was trying to make it as obvious as possible she was a lesbian (um, and it was already fairly obvious). But this was not only my 100th fare, but what was more interesting was that the address they had was for where the gay bar USED to be. I drove to the abandoned building fitting the address they gave me, asked where it was they were wanting to do, and I was like, "Oh, well I know right where that is." Fort Wayne doesn't exactly have a lot of known gay bars, but they thought it was funny that the Uber driver knew where it was. Whatever. They were fun, and it was a memorable 100th ride.

I also had my 50th 5-Star ride last week. I've only had one rider that gave me less than five starts (four), and most - apparently about half - don't bother to give a rating at all. It's ironic because drivers have to rate every rider, but riders don't have to rate drivers. Whatever. I'm not sure what significance it carries, if any, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt to have a higher rating.

INTERESTING RIDERS
I would say the most interesting rider I've had (or at least most well-known) was probably the time I picked up one of the singers for Trans Siberian Orchestra. I believe it was Kayla Reeves. She/they were staying at a downtown hotel the day before their show in town, and I gave her a ride to a tanning salon. She did not look like she does in her pics - I think she had on sweats and her hair was pulled back - but she was very nice. The way I found out she was a singer was because when she got in the car she sounded somewhat hoarse, like she had a cold. I offered her a cough drop and she said her voice was always like that because she was a singer (plus she had just woke up). I asked who she sang with and she told me. She said she was known more as the "rocker" girl. Of course I messed something up on the app about halfway to her destination and it shut it off, so she got an extra cheap ride. I hadn't been driving very long at the time. Anyway, that's about the extent of it.

STRANGE HAPPENINGS
I suppose there have been a few quasi-interesting riders, but no one too our of the ordinary. Two of the more memorable ones were: The first night I drove late I got a request to pick a guy up in the Motel 6 parking lot (by the truck stop). I then dropped him off in the parking lot of the Rang Dong Asian grocery store. This was probably around midnight, so it just seemed a little strange.

The other 'character' I remember was the lady from Canada. She was staying with her son and for some reason decided she just needed to go to a hotel during the middle of the day. She couldn't remember the name of it, but my app took us to a Comfort Suites. She didn't think that was it, and they didn't have a reservation for her. So we went to another hotel and she didn't have a reservation there either but just booked a room. Then she tipped me with a $10 Canadian bill. She thought my grandkids would like it. It was very pretty, but it would cost me more to change it into usable money that it's worth, so it's basically just a piece of paper to me. She seemed a little on the eccentric and strange side.

OTHERWISE...
I'm sure there have been more things I should have written down but they've been replaced in the memory banks already. Most of my pick-ups are either to or from the airport, people needing a ride to or from work, or the grocery store, or out to eat, and that sort of thing. Some sit in front, some in back, and it doesn't seem to matter if it's male or female, young or old.

So, that's about all I've got for now. I will try to do a better job of posting things as they occur in the future. Mostly it's pretty boring though.

Carwash crazy

It's not quite 'workin at the carwash'... but I signed up for one of those unlimited carwash deals the other day. It was a combination of things. For starters, what with all the salt and chemicals they put on the roads it is darn near impossible to keep a car clean right now. Car cleanliness is also fairly important for Uber drivers - if you care at all about your ratings and/or your riders. Plus, and this was maybe the kicker, a new carwash just opened and the first month of unlimited washes is only $15 (with a 3-month commitment).

So I signed up for the Premier package at The Tube Car Wash. This will get me as many washes as I want that includes:
Advanced Wash Technology PLUS:
Rain-X® Repellent
Tire Shine
Armor All® Clear Coat
Wheel Bright
Underbody

I figured if I'm making this kind of investment (for no more than 3 months), I'm not going with the express package. And it was only $10 more over 3 months to add the tire shine and rain-x repellent to the deluxe package. They also have a really nice vacuum system for the inside that is free. The downside is they only have one location (W. Illinois Rd) compared to Mike's Carwash, but it's hard to beat that introductory special.

Once the weather clears up and the roads are no longer caked with salt I will likely go back to hand washing at home. Until then, though, I will probably take my car through The Tube 8-10 times a week. The first day I signed up I washed it twice!

I suppose this is an added benefit to driving for Uber: I make it a point to keep my car cleaner. Yet I am also a tad flummoxed that I've now become one of "those" people. Oh well. Call me crazy. Carwash crazy, that is!

First time driving at night

Since starting to drive for Uber I had so far managed to only do it during the day. I usually drive 2-4 days per week and just 3 or 4 hours at a time. Normally I stop around 5 pm - just because I can (I don't need to make more at the moment). This past Friday was the first time I drove later than that.

I worked my usual 5 am - 9 am shift at the Y, but I also covered the person closing (4-8 pm). While walking to my car after closing it seemed there were a lot of people out and about downtown so I decided I would just turn the Uber app on and see how long it took to get a ride request.

It didn't take long at all, and before I'd dropped off my first rider, I had a second request pop up. I had to stop at the grocery store for Jane, so after dropping off the milk at home I decided to keep driving. I ended up working until after 1 am. I made just over $80, which put me at around $150 for the week. That's the most I have made per day or week yet.

I picked up several couples - some who had simply been out for supper and some who had been full-on partying. One guy just needed a ride to the liquor store and back home because he ran out of whiskey. A lady needed me to take her through the ATM and the drive-thru at Wendy's for supper. One guy was pretty wasted but was fairly coherent, at least for the first part of the trip. I did have an airport trip too, as well as a couple others.

All in all, it went okay, and everyone was super nice. I made about $15-$20 in tips. One thing I especially thought interesting though... was my struggle to STOP driving. It was almost like gambling - I wanted to make just a little more! But, since I got up at 4 that morning, I thought I should probably get home around 1:30 am.

I don't know that I will ever get rich driving Uber, or if I could do it as a sole source of income, but it's been okay for a little extra money for now. I'm not sure what weeknights would be like, but I wouldn't mind an occasional Friday or Saturday night now and then. We'll see.
