B's birthday and mom's visit

The middle grandchild turned 8 this past Saturday. Crazy. There was a little birthday bash with a few family and friends. The pic shows him with some of his new legos, stuffed "thing", his brother and a classmate. It was a beautiful day outside, and I think the boy had a pretty good day. This year he was into Minecraft, dragons, and cash.

My mom ended up driving out by herself. She gets around pretty good for an 80+ year-old. I think the last time she was here was just before covid hit - in late February or early March - with my sister. I was a little nervous about her coming. Even though she travels all over the place and socializes quite a bit I still didn't want her coming here and getting covid. I think she really wanted Jane to look over some legal papers for her though, and there's really not much that keeps her down. Hopefully it stays that way for awhile.

Other than that there's not much to say that isn't controversial, condescending, or conspiratorial. So... we had a good visit, B had a good birthday, and it was a nice weekend all around.

Visitors

We had visitors in our home for a few days this past week. My mom, sister, and one nephew arrived and stayed with us from Sunday evening until noon-ish Tuesday.

My nephew is currently in luthiery school and will be looking for a job this Spring. He and his mom came out to tour Fort Wayne's Sweetwater music company, which employs a couple thousand people as the leading online music retailer in the country. They stopped on their way from Minnesota and picked up my mom in Illinois and brought her along.

It was a nice visit. Monday morning was the tour at Sweetwater. I went along even though I've been there multiple times. It's an incredible place. Then I took everyone around Fort Wayne to see where we all work and some of the other sites of the city. Monday evening we all went out to Drew Carrie's so they could see their house, then everyone went to supper together at The Club Room at the Clyde Theatre.

Early Tuesday morning the power went out in our neighborhood, so from 4:30-10-ish am we had no power. We all just sat around in the dark and chit-chatted.

My nephew brought two of the instruments he has made. This acoustic and electric guitar were his school projects last year. They are artistically beautiful, and seem to be quite fine instruments as well. I am not easily impressed, but I was and am about these. He is currently working on a mandolin and something else (I can't remember at the moment).

Anyway, it was good to see them all, and I'm glad my mom got to come. She used to love to come visit, and probably would a lot more if not for my dad. I know the grand kids love seeing her, and she them.
